Pastoral visit to Holy Cross Parish, Asap, Belaga 11th - 12th November 2017.

The Pastoral Mission to Holy Cross Parish, Asap visited 3 longhouses -
(1) Uma Seping, Kajang, Long Koyan, Belaga.
(2) Levu Lahanan Ida Beran Ayak, Sungei Asap
(3) Uma Belor Leo Dian, Sungei Asap

On Saturday 11th November 2017, Right Reverend Bishop Richard Ng and Fr. Sylvester Ngau celebrated sunset mass at 20 doors Seping longhouse Uma Seping, Kajang, Long Koyan, Belaga.  The vanishing Seping tribe with a population of merely 300 is said to be the earliest tribe to inhabit the areas around the Belaga river.

On Sunday 12th November 2017, Right Reverend Bishop Richard Ng, Fr. John Chia and Fr. Sylvester Ngau administered Sacrament of Confirmation to 155 candidates at 105 doors Lahanan longhouse Levu Lahanan Ida Beran Ayak, Sungei Asap.  Around one thousand parishioners participated in the Holy Mass and Sacrament of Confirmation.

Holy Cross Parish Center, Asap is currently under renovation hence the parish priests are temporary accomodating in 101 doors Kayan longhouse Uma Belor Leo Dian, Sungei Asap considered one of the best Kayan longhouses and potentially the longest interupted longhouse structure in Sarawak (one km long).  It consists of 7 connected blocks occupied by a total of one hundred and one families with a total population estimated to be 700 people. It is estimated there are 6000 Catholics in Holy Cross Parish, Asap.

The journey by road Miri to Levu Lahanan recorded 240 km one way.
