Pastoral Visit to Holy Cross Parish, Asap 14th - 15th September 2019

The pastoral visit to Holy Cross Parish, Asap reached out to two churches Gereja St John of the Cross, Uma Sambop, Long Semutut, Belaga and Gereja St Joseph, Uma Badeng, Sungei Asap.

On Saturday 14th September 2019, Right Reverend Bishop Richard Ng, Fr. John Chia, Fr. Arokia Paulraj and Fr. John Ciril celebrated sunset Mass at Gereja St John of the Cross, Uma Sambop with some 300 parishioners.  Uma Sambop 82-door Kenyah longhouse majority Catholics is 21 km away from Holy Cross parish center.  The church entrance is linked to the longhouse corridor both wooden structure.

On Sunday 15th September 2019, Right Reverend Bishop Richard Ng administered Sacrament of Confirmation to 150 candidates at Gereja St Joseph, Uma Badeng a 90-door Kenyah longhouse majority Catholics where Bishop, Fr. John Chia and Fr. John Ciril celebrated morning Mass 24th Sunday in Ordinary Time with 500 plus parishioners coming from various kampungs and longhouses.

Gereja St Joseph, Uma Badeng was officiated and blessed by Fr. Anthony Wan on 22nd December 1998.

The Rector of Holy Cross Parish, Asap is Fr. John Chia assisted by two priests Fr. Arokia Paulraj and Fr. John Ciril. There are 80 longhouses, camps and plantations under Holy Cross Parish, Asap including Tubau area.

The road trip Miri to Uma Sambop registered 261 km one way.  Total returned journey recorded 545 km including 42 km off road.
