Early morning Sunday 21st July 2019, the pastoral team left Rumah Egang for Gereja Tubuh dan Darah Kristus, Beluru, Bakong situated 11.2 km away from the longhouse.
Right Reverend Bishop Richard Ng, Fr. Andy Lee and Fr. Anthony Dass celebrated 8.30am Mass in Iban with some 300 parishioners at Gereja Tubuh dan Darah Kristus where His Lordship Bishop administered Sacrament of Confirmation to 80 candidates out of which 30 were SMK students. The church is built for 300 pax capacity seated inside.
Fr. Andy Lee is the Rector for Church of Holy Family Parish, Lapok serving 60 longhouses, camps, plantations in Lapok area for the Kenyah, Kayan, Iban, Berawan communities and another 20 longhouses majority Ibans in Bakong area.
Fr. Andy Lee is assisted by two priests both from India Fr. Alex Anantharaj and Fr. Anthony Dass to serve in the parish both Lapok and Bakong areas.
The late Fr. Mathieu Knapen a Mill Hill priest who brought the Catholic Faith to the Iban communities in the mid 60s is a very popular priest and highly admired by the locals the pioneer who first planted the seed of Faith to the Iban community in Bakong.
Dennis Tija the cathecist has served 16 years in Bakong under Church of Holy Family Parish, Lapok. Prior to his move to Bakong, he served 18 years in St George Parish, Sebauh. Thanks be to God for his dedication 34 years Cathecist working for the Diocese of Miri.
